Choosing The Perfect Rug To Last A Lifetime

In the same level of complexity that it takes to make a beautiful rug, choosing the perfect one for you can be equally challenging. If you are a first-time buyer, you might get lost in the wide array of rug colors, styles and shapes available in the market.

Here is a video featuring last year’s Outrageous Rugs contest winner Karine Breed and interior designer Wendy Frampton. In the video, Wendy gives some interesting and useful tips as she helps Karine choose the right rug for her needs.

Wendy Frampton:

There’s only going to be a few rugs that you fall in love with that are the right size and the right price point for your project.

PC:

We asked interior designer Wendy Frampton to give our Outrageous Rugs contest winner Karine Breed some important tips for choosing a rug that will last a lifetime.

WF:

See all of the color that comes out of it and you can see how that would be very versatile down the road. You’re a young person. You’re looking at a lifetime of different homes. A rug such as this can move with you many, many places and be a beautiful base. If clients don’t know what their favorite colors are, just ask them to go to their wardrobe.

Karine Breed:

I wear browns and white and golds typically.

WF:

But the blues and greens are your favorites?

KB:

It accents my furniture, which is dark wood.

WF:

Green always compliments purple and blue beautifully. Do you want to know how you can tell easily that it’s handmade?

KB:

Yeah.

WF:

First, you look at the price. The price will always be much higher. But if you turn it over, you see how uneven the knots are?

KB:

Yeah.

WF:

Whether they’re quite large like this or whether they’re teeny tiny, if they’re uneven, that’s one indication. What’s so great about handmade rug are the imperfections truly because no two are alike. You’ll see uneven edges. You might even find a little mistake or two. That all becomes the beauty of the rug.

KB:

She had some really great tips. I like the taking it if it’s hanging, having it on the ground, looking at it from different angles because the color… the way that it can be lighter or brighter or darker from one side to the other.

WF:

We pull them down and we look at them in a more realistic viewpoint.

KB:

It’s a lot easier to buy a new bedspread than it is to buy a new rug.

WF:

If you find the rug first, it just makes the job so much easier.

PC:
