Making your bedroom soundproof can be a real challenge. You may need to pursue a major renovation in order to make your bedroom completely devoid of noise. Fortunately, you can add sound-absorbing materials in your room and minimize unwanted sound.
Here are some tips on how to soundproof and minimize the noise level inside your bedroom, so that you can enjoy more peaceful sleep:
Walls
If your wall comes with insulation or is made of brick or stone, it is already soundproof. For added protection, you can add acoustical tiles, wall panels, fabrics, and vinyl barriers. These materials are quite easy to install. Likewise, there are also sound-dampening products that can be installed in dry walls or as a retrofit.
Doors
Doors are known for letting sound leak in and out of a room. To make your bedroom soundproof, consider medium density fiber or solid wood doors. If you are working on a budget, add vinyl peel-and-stick soundproofing material to a hollow core door. Likewise, you should install a snug-fitting bottom door seal or sound-dampening drapes.
Windows
Installing soundproof or triple-paned windows adds layers of glass that help deflect sound. They also have sound-dispersing air layers in between the glass panes. Switching from aluminum frame windows to vinyl will also reduce the noise.
Triple pane windows will require an upgrade from your existing windows while specialty soundproof windows can easily be installed behind your windows for a less invasive solution to noise.
Floors
Floors deflect sounds coming into your room. A running vacuum cleaner may prove deafening in bare floors. To minimize the sound, consider installing rugs in your bedroom. They will take up much of the noise bouncing off the floor.
Consider these recommendations and you can be on your way to a noise-free sleep in your bedroom.
