Color printing company Pantone has just announced the Color of the Year for 2016, and what’s surprising is that they chose two colors for next year — Rose Quartz and Serenity.

Based on the Pantone Color of the Year page, the combination of Rose Quartz (hex color #F7CAC9) and Serenity (hex color #92A8D1) represents “an inherent balance between a warmer embracing rose tone and the cooler tranquil blue.” The soft colors for 2016 is also aligned to the increasing trend of gender equality when it comes to fashion and style. “In many parts of the world we are experiencing a gender blur as it relates to fashion, which has in turn impacted color trends throughout all other areas of design,” a statement from Pantone said.

Now that 2016 is approaching, the question is how to use these two Pantone colors in styling your home. Check out these tips on using the Pantone Color of the Year 2016, based on advice from Houzz.com:

Use rose quartz in rooms that need sophistication

Although this soft pinkish color plays well in a kid’s bedroom, rose quartz can also work great for rooms that need a higher level of sophistication. Examples include the living room or a personal study room.

Use serenity in rooms that need calmness

Blue colors work best in the bedroom and bathroom, and the same goes with this soft Pantone color. You may also use this in your personal space, so that you can clear your mind and just feel relaxed.

Partner with bold hues

Use the power of contrast to elevate the style of a room. For soft pastel colors, pair them up with bold and dark colors. For instance, you can use navy blue decors with a rose quartz wall.

Combine with whites and grays

Using gray or white surfaces and decorations can highlight the two Pantone colors in the room. Use decors that don’t look too busy.

Start small and gradually go bigger

If you’re not yet sure whether to use these two colors in your house, don’t go all out and paint your walls using rose quartz or serenity. You can start with white walls and then use the two colors through decorations or furniture.
