Winter is a perfect time to cozy up and enjoy the warmth of our home, don’t you agree? It’s the best time to relax on your favorite chair and feel the soft and comforting fibers of floor rugs with your bare feet.

Did you know that shag rugs are slowly returning as a trend? These ultra-soft floor textures were famous a long time ago, so sprucing up your home floors with shag rugs will be an ultimate throwback to the good old days. Don’t worry about making your house look outdated, because today’s shag rugs are splashed with modern colors and designed for contemporary indoor styles.

Check out this feature on shag rugs and how it’s becoming a definite style essential for your home:

Here is the transcript of the video above:

Phoebe Chongchua: From rasta style shags to area rugs that mimic nature, rugs are hot decorative features in the home. Since the opening of Outrageous Rugs nearly 25 years ago, Juan Diaz has been helping customers achieve the perfect look for their home. He says that many people don’t realize just how much a rug can harmonize their décor.

Juan Diaz: Clients – they already have furniture. They have curtains. They already have a hardwood floor. The area rug provides the missing link.

Phoebe Chongchua: What’s popular in home décor these days is color and texture and what’s comfy to the feet.

Steve Blumkin: Nothing like walking on a soft body of textural rug. We’re seeing a lot of different shades of blues, of platinums, a lot of the winter wheats. We’re seeing some tinges of greens that are a little bit more olive. This is a blend of three different textures using a cable yarn, a very fine twisted thin yarn, and then an accent yarn. Something like this actually is made in America. This can be made in any size you want and any color. This is called the ARS Color System. It’s a universal color bank that is used in India, Nepal, and is tied in also to Pantone colors.

Typically, most of the custom houses can match most things if it’s not part of their standard color bank. The one thing, though, is there are so many products now off the shelf that do have a lot of standard fantastic colors. My first recommendation is see if there’s something off the shelf that’s reasonable, that looks great. If you can’t find that, then you go to custom.

Phoebe Chongchua: Shags often give a retro chic look, but because of the many colors and styles, decorators consider them highly versatile. They could create a luxurious and contemporary look or a casual atmosphere.

Steve Blumkin: You put that in a very Zen type room on a dark floor with a little chrome or silver. The floor all of a sudden becomes alive. That’s kind of with the shags because the movement in the different textures is not just a static product.

Phoebe Chongchua: Caring for the rugs is quite simple: a little light vacuuming, some spot treatment, and if you have longer fibers like this one, just give it a good shake.

Steve Blumkin: Whether it’s in shag or custom carpets, if you can perceive the idea, at Outrageous Rugs we can achieve it.
