Tips On Rug Care and Maintenance

Rug maintenance is one of the considerations that are unfortunately taken for granted. After buying the rug, most people don’t care too much about keeping it clean and maintained. If you want your rug to stand the test of time, then you need to take note of our rug maintenance tips.

A few months ago, we featured an article on “Tips On Cleaning Rugs Without Damaging Them“. This time, let us share tips to keep your well-maintained while preventing any damage as a result of cleaning or storage.

Storage

When storing rugs, make sure to have them cleaned first, preferably through a professional rug cleaning service.

Also on storage, wrap your clean rugs and store them in a climate-controlled area. Do not expose them to direct sunlight or moisture.

Tags

Do not clip off and throw away the rug’s care tag. This will serve as your reference for proper cleaning, maintenance, and storage.

Washing and Drying

When washing rugs, set the washing machine on delicate mode. Use cold water. Try to keep the fringe intact by wrapping the rug with white string or placing the rug in a mesh bag.

To dry washed rugs, do not hang them on one side over a clothesline. Instead, use a clothes drying rack of a mesh table. Always make sure to have the rug flat while drying it off.
